What the nominator said: “Anne Mathay is one of Delaware’s rising stars. Who else works a demanding, full-time job, and volunteers for a Pregnancy After Loss group, only to emerge on the other side having formed a nonprofit that supports women and families who have also experienced loss? Anne Mathay is goal-oriented and a planner; her warmth is infectious and she never quits. Hank’s Hope Inc., her nonprofit, helps bring a taboo, quiet subject to light, making her a rising star in Delaware.”

Social media platform you can’t live without: Instagram.

Your biggest break: Getting selected to read in the Baltimore production of “Listen to Your Mother!” It gave me the self-confidence to move my career and nonprofit forward. It also made me realize that sharing my story isn’t putting a scarlet letter on my chest, but instead breaking a stigma.

Best career advice you ever got: Never underestimate what can be crammed into a 60-minute lunch break.

Two words that best describe you: Focused and passionate.

Work /life balance technique you recommend: Always keep your gym bag in your car.

If you were in charge of Delaware: I would require all health-care providers to undergo intensive education about pre-partum depression, because they should know about the physical and mental effects of pregnancy loss. I would also mandate specialized care for the woman who has lost a pregnancy or is pregnant again after a loss.

In one sentence, define “success.” Going to bed at night feeling satisfied and proud of the work you did that day, but all the while thinking, “What ELSE can I do tomorrow?”
