The Bethany Beach Farmers’ Market this week kicked off its 11th season with a ribbon cutting organized by the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce. A mix of vendors, volunteers and community members turned out for the celebration.

The market hosts 15 local vendors, selling a mix of fruits, vegetables, artisanal breads, cheeses, herbs and freshly cut flowers.

“Our growers, our neighbors – We are proud to be a producer’s-only market in the heart of Bethany, connecting our community with their local farmers who provide the finest quality items sourced directly from our Delmarvalous lands to you,” said Doug Mowrey, board member for the chamber.

The market is open Sundays 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. through September 2. It’s located at the corner of Garfield Parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue in Bethany Beach.

    Market Report- June 16 2018
SUMMER IS HERE FOR REAL – FINALLY!

No one has ever accused me of being a good cook, but last Sunday I got lucky. Yellow squash, zucchini, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, and red bliss potatoes (par-boiled) – all marinated in a splish-splash of olive oil and Lavender Fields “Herbs de Provence with French Gray Sea Salt”, was a winner. Grill for a few minutes, and pair it with the garlic bread from Old World Breads, and voila!, a winner! The only thing missing was Davidson’s mushrooms – that omission will not be repeated. Madam Shroom had her Pom Poms this week – they have an uncanny crab taste, and with some luck we expect more next week.

The temps are supposed to soar this week which will push the crops. The Ficner and Wimbrow farms hope to have corn next week – fingers crossed. Can peaches and tomatoes be far behind? Patience….the local crops are worth waiting for!

Be sure to ask Honey Bee Lake Apiary about their new beeswax wraps that replace plastic – very cool, and eco friendly. They are also offering an array of new soaps and Honey Orange Bath Bombs!

We expect plenty of berries next week, but they can sell out quickly. Also, Lavender Fields Doggie Spray and After Sun Lotion flies off the shelf.
By the way, if you were hoping to get some of Hudson’s incredible Strawberry Jam, you snoozed, and you lost – already sold out for the season.

DON’T BE DISAPPOINTED – SHOP EARLY!!!!
