A bill raising the Delaware minimum wage from $8.25 to $8.75 has failed in the State Senate.
Every single Republican senator voted against the bill, which meant it needed every Democratic vote to pass. Sen.Brian Bushweller of Dover abstained, however, due to his concerns about driving out the casino industry through the combination or higher wages and revenue sharing.
Bushweller has worked for years to lower the 43 percent revenue sharing plan with Delaware casinos.
The bill would have increased the minimum wage by 50 cents a year starting in 2017 through 2020. At that point, raises would continue based on increases in the cost-of-living determined under the federal Social Security Act.
