Black Friday shoppers not in a mood to splurge

Black Friday shoppers will be looking for low prices this year, according to a new survey from BFAds.net, a shopping website.

About 62 percent of the 1000 Black Friday shoppers surveyed said they’d be searching for low prices.
More than half said they plan to spend about the same amount they spent last year.

Most shoppers surveyed said they use websites to search for sales. Only 22 percent said they look at newspaper ads. About 12 percent said they leave their homes without looking at any ads. The three most popular payment methods were credit cards, then debit cards, then cash. Only 2 percent said they’d be writing a check for their purchases.

The top items on shoppers’ lists are: clothing (61 percent), home goods (47 percent), laptops and tables (46 percent), TVs (38 percent), toys (37 percent) and video games (33 percent.)

The top “store” for the shoppers surveyed is an online one — Amazon. The runners-up are Walmart and Target.

About 52 percent of respondents said they’ll visit two to four stores on Black Friday. Almost three-quarters said they’ll also shop that Saturday after Thanksgiving to support local businesses on Small Business Saturday.
