Christiana Care earns five-star rating from federal hospital tracker

Christiana Care Health System earned a five-star ranking from Hospital Compare, a federal government-created tool launched in July 2016 to help consumers make better decisions.

More than 300 hospitals nationwide – 10 percent of the total – earned the five-star rating.

“To put it simply, at Christiana Care Health System, we are delivering excellent, high-quality care to the people we serve,” said Sharon L. Anderson, R.N., B.S.N., M.S., FACHE, senior vice president of quality and patient safety and chief population health officer at Christiana Care. “This recognition belongs to all of our exceptional physicians, nurses and staff who are dedicated to advancing a culture in which we place the patients and their families at the center of all that we do.”

The Hospital Compare measures seven areas of quality, including:

1. Mortality

2. Safety of Care

3. Readmission

4. Patient Experience

5. Effectiveness of Care

6. Timeliness of Care

7. Efficient Use of Medical Imaging

“As a major teaching health system, including a Level I Trauma Center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and several more programs that provide the highest level of care to many of the most complex and difficult-to-treat cases, achieving a five-star rating is very special and relatively rare,” said Kert Anzilotti, M.D., MBA, chief medical officer of acute care at Christiana Care. “We strive to be excellent today and even better tomorrow, and we put our patients at the center of all that we do. This achievement shows that our approach is working, and it inspires us to work even harder for our patients and our community.”
