After serving the United States Air Force, Jeffrey obtained his life and health insurance license. He rose through the ranks to sales manager for the state of Delaware and Eastern Shore of Maryland for Combined Insurance, and through his tenacity, was promoted to President for SGC Associates Inc., where he oversaw the daily operations of the organization, ranging from human resource management to new business development.
Social media you can’t live without: Facebook. I love to read others’ posts and catch up with high school friends and military buddies via the networking site.
Best career advice you ever got: Stay teachable; be open to correction and quick to apologize when wrong. Also, every career move you make has to be strategic to obtain the goals you seek.
How you give back: I currently serve on the Seaford School District Board of Education and the Board of Directors for the Delaware Center for Justice, I’m co-founder of Sussex County Action Prevention Coalition, I’m a member of the Georgetown Economic Development Council and the Governor Appointed Delaware TANF Welfare Employment Committee Member.
Your biggest challenge: Learning how to balance my career with my family life. My wife and my two kids are my life, so they come first. But I love what I do, so I try to incorporate my family with my civic duties when possible.
Networking group you use the most: The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce along with my Leadership
Work-life balance technique you recommend: Before or after work, when you’re home or spending time with your family, dedicate as much quality time with them as possible, because the majority of your day is spent at work. It’s not the quantity but the quality of time that counts.
