TITLE: Medical Director, Inpatient Supportive and Palliative Medicine
COMPANY: Christiana Care Health System
What the nominator said: “As a member of Leadership Delaware (class of 2016), I have witnessed Dr. Guerry’s authenticity, unending passion, positive attitude, and courage and compassion in a relatively short period of time. She embodies the spirit of leadership with her persistent desire for knowledge, innate ability to lead, and selfless determination to make a difference.”
Social media platform you can’t live without: Twitter. I follow some of the national leaders in my field, so I get to find out what articles they are reading, which keeps me informed and up to date.
Your biggest break: Being a part of the Leadership Delaware program. Not being a native Delawarean, I wasn’t familiar with the program, but the experience has been extremely rewarding. I really am getting my “Degree in Delaware.”
Two words that best describe you: Caring and innovative.
Work/life balance technique you recommend: Balance doesn’t really exist, but one metaphor I use is that in life you are juggling different balls — one for work, one for school, one for friends, and one for home life. You spend time trying to keep them all in the air but there is one made of glass — it’s the home one and you can’t let that one fall.
If you were in charge of Delaware: I would prioritize access to high-quality resources for mental illness in the state. I think investment in this area will pay dividends in the opioid abuse problem, violence and general wellness in Delaware.
