Two Wilmington streets renamed for local artists

Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki this week will join council members for two street renamings in honor of renowned local artists.

Monday, October 8 at 11 a.m. at East 28th Street and Speakman Place

The late Wilbert ‘Wilby’ B. Fletcher, a world-renowned musician who made a significant impact on the history and culture of his native Wilmington, will be honored when the 2700 block of Speakman Place is renamed “Wilbert B. Fletcher Way.”

Tuesday, October 9 at 11:15 a.m. at 12th and South Heald Street

The late Wilmington-born artist Edward L. Loper, Sr. will be honored when the 1200 block of South Heald Street on Wilmington’s East Side is renamed as “Edward L. Loper, Sr. Way.”
