New welcome signs greet visitors as they cross the Delaware border. They say “Welcome to Delaware – Endless Discoveries.” They are part of a larger campaign that will list attractions off Delaware highways.
The Delaware Tourism Office, in collaboration with DelDOT, erected the signs in all three counties late last month. The ongoing re-branding campaign also includes television commercials, web and print advertising and wrapped cars from local car-advertising company Carvertise.
“This is a great way to get a new image of the state in front of literally thousands of drivers each day,” said Linda Parkowski, director fo the Delaware Tourism Office. “Ultimately, we aim to create a system of roadway signs that not only intrigue travelers, but are also more helpful to them in navigating the state’s attractions.”
The tourism office is implementing a new tourist-attractions-sign program similar to the blue highway signs listing gas, food and lodging along Delaware 1, but they will also feature museums, historic sites and other attractions. They will work in tandem with new “trailblazer” signs installed on the exit ramps to point visitors in the right direction and show how many miles to attractions.
