Sunna Juice Bar & Cafe, the Zen-like restaurant cousin to Brew HaHa!, has closed after less than six months. The restaurant at 1420 N. DuPont St., just didn’t work, owner Alisa Morkides said. “We’re moving on,” she said. “We’re sorry that it didn’t work out at Sunna. We’re taking this as a learning experience for us to be better. We’re very excited about the future.”
Meanwhile, Brew HaHa! Espresso & Newsstand at 3842 Kennett Pike in Greenville will grow from 1,800 square feet to about 3,000 by mid-2016, she said. Morkides, who is applying for a liquor license for the space, describes the new design as “a coffee bar on steroids.”
Offerings will include small plates, coffee cocktails, new brewing methods and full weekend brunches. Since May, Morkides ran restaurants bookending the L-shaped Rockford Shops in Trolley Square. Her lines-out-the-door-popular Brew HaHa! Roastery opened there in April. In addition to serving fresh-roasted coffee at Brew HaHa! locations, Morkides said she has garnered some wholesale clients for the coffee beans.
“We’d like to incorporate what we learned at Sunna in our other locations, because the food, we thought, was really good,” she said.
