Lewes, Del – The Beebe Medical Group Board of Directors announces the appointment of George V. Jirak, MD, MBA, as President/CEO of Beebe Medical Group

Jirak will oversee the employed physician medical group under Beebe Healthcare, currently comprised of 18 medical specialty offices in 25 locations throughout southern Delaware, with more than 101 medical providers and 151 support staff.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Jirak to Beebe Medical Group as President/CEO,” says Daniel Cuozzo, DO, Chairman of Beebe Medical Group Board of Directors. “Dr. Jirak is an accomplished physician who brings proven leadership skills, as well as the experience and knowledge to provide coordination in best-practice patient care amongst our medical specialty providers, primary care physicians, Delmarva Health Network, and Beebe Healthcare and its diverse medical services.”

Dr. Jirak brings to Beebe Medical Group more than 28 years of patient care experience as an obstetrician/gynecologist and over 15 years of leadership experience, with both physician and healthcare organizations. As the nation’s changing healthcare environment has led many private-office physicians to choose employment within larger physician organizations, Dr. Jirak has worked to foster a culture of engagement and collaboration within the hospital-employed physician model.

Prior to joining Beebe Medical Group, Dr. Jirak served as Vice President of Augusta Health in Fishersville, VA, as well as the President of Augusta Medical Group. While in Virginia, he led the expansion of Primary Care Services, developed a Spine Center, established a Medical Director Advisory Council, along with the implementation of several programs and initiatives to improve accountability, efficiency, and quality of care.

For more than a decade, Dr. Jirak was with the Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, WV, where he led the expansion of Gynecology and Uro-Gynecology Services, serving as Vice Chair of OB/GYN, as well as participating in resident education. Additional roles of leadership held by Dr. Jirak included: Medical Director of the Employed Physician Practice Division of Ohio Valley Medical Center/East Ohio Regional Hospital; Chairman of the Wheeling Area Continuing Medical Education Consortium; and President of the Wheeling OB/GYN Society.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Jirak founded a 55-member independent physician organization in Western Kentucky that he managed for more than five years; engineered the merger of two independent physician practices to create an organization of 120 physicians; and initiated the development of a provider-sponsored health insurance product.

Dr. Jirak earned his undergraduate and medical degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  He completed both a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a flexible internship at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, earning his Physician Executive MBA at the University of Tennessee. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the International Urogynecology Association and the Leadership Council for the University of Tennessee Physician Executive MBA Program.

“The healthcare system in our country is going through a period of unprecedented and needed change,” said Jeffrey M. Fried, FACHE, President and CEO of Beebe Healthcare. “One of the changes we are seeing both nationally, as well as in our own community, is the interest of more and more young physicians who are completing their training, wanting to work for hospitals and health systems rather than going into private practice.

“While we continue to support our private practice doctors and work to help them where we can with recruitment, we recognize that Beebe Medical Group will need to be able to accommodate more of these young physicians.  Having a medical group that works efficiently and offers an opportunity for young doctors to come to our community will continue to grow in importance and we are very fortunate to have Dr. Jirak leading these efforts with our Beebe Medical Group doctors, practitioners, and other team members.”
