We call it the DBT40 – young professionals who are making a difference in their organizations and Delaware communities.

We created the DBT40 event last year to recognize young professionals in Delaware who are making a difference in their organizations and communities.

The DBT40 Class of 2014 was made up of 21 men, 19 women, and included a chamber president, two mayors, and a city councilman. They were involved in all types of business activity, including technology, real estate, health care, the law, and the arts. They had an entrepreneurial sprit and have created products and hosted events throughout the year in the state.

Their average age then was 33.

One of my memories from last year’s event was a conversation with one of our guests at the ceremony. The last time he was under 40, he said, George Bush the Elder was president. He added that, while he didn’t know any of the honorees personally, listening to their accomplishments during the ceremony assured him that the future of Delaware business is in good hands.

A new twist this year – the selection committee will include members of the DBT40 Class of 2014.

Qualifications are simple. The individual must:

  • be under 40 years of age as of 9/30/2015;
  • not have been a previous honoree;
  • have made an impact on his or her company or community; and
  • show the potential to be a leader in business during the next decade.

All nominations must be submitted online and include a copy of a nominee’s recent résumé. Self-nominations are accepted. The form can be found at delawarebusinesstimes.com/40
