The board of directors of the Nemours Foundation Tuesday announced that Dr. R. Lawrence Moss has succeeded Dr. David Bailey as president and CEO of Nemours Children’s Hospital.

Moss is a pediatric surgeon, biomedical researchers, health system executive and teacher. He comes to Delaware after working seven years as surgeon-in-chief at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and a professor of surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He will start in his new role on October 1.

“Dr. Moss brings unique experiences as a physician leader in academic health centers, and he embodies the character of Nemours, a health system dedicated to continuous learning and improvement,” said Brian Anderson, chairman of the board of directors of the Nemours Foundation. |

“In addition to his clinical roles, he brings invaluable perspective and expertise in the development and execution of value-based care focused on the overall health of children through collaboration with payers and government agencies.”

Bailey announced his retirement earlier this year after more than 21 years of service for Nemours. He spent the last 12 president and CEO and led the development of the first greenfield freestanding children’s hospital in the U.S. in decades

Under his leadership, Nemours increased care locations from 15 to 90 over six states and grew revenue from $533 million to $1.4 billion.

“I am thrilled the Board of Directors has chosen such a promising physician leader as Dr. Moss,” Bailey said. “Nemours is a unique institution, which places stellar physicians and Associates at the heart of its child-first approach to care. I look forward to working with Dr. Moss to ensure a smooth leadership transition.”

Dr moss saved my son’s life almost 19 years ago at yales children’s hospital when he was first starting out. I think it’s fabulous that he will be the new cheif of surgery there. I will never forget his dedication to all children. He truly Is an inspiration to so many people and I don’t know if my son would even still be here if it wasn’t for doctor moss doing the surgery and all of.the care for him afterwards.
