NRA affiliate sues over new Delaware state parks weapons ban

(AP) — After Delaware’s longtime ban on firearms in state parks and forests was struck down late last year, a new partial ban is now being challenged in court.

The News Journal reports that National Rifle Association-affiliate Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association and a Bridgeville Rifle & Pistol Club member sued Delaware’s Natural Resources and Environmental Control and agriculture departments this week.

The lawsuit contends that the revised policy that bans weapons from specific places within parks and forests is unconstitutional. The new regulations were officially adopted earlier this month, after the Delaware Supreme Court declared the decades-old full ban unconstitutional.

Department of Agriculture Secretary Michael Scuse said in a statement that the new regulations comply with the top state court’s ruling and are designed to protect the public.
