United Way of Delaware (UWDE) has elected eight new members to its 37-member board of directors, including the first representative from Salem County, New Jersey, which is now part of United Way of Delaware’s service area. The following individuals were unanimously elected to two-year terms on the UWDE Board of Directors, effective June 13:
• Betsy Amoroso: Amoroso oversees all internal and external communications programs for Mannington Mills Inc., one of the world’s leading manufacturers of fine flooring, based in Salem, New Jersey, and manages the company’s corporate philanthropy programs.
• Dr. Dusty Blakey: Dr. Blakey has been serving the students of the Colonial School District for more than 18 years. He was named superintendent in 2014, after serving as Director of Schools and, earlier, as assistant principal and deputy principal of William Penn High School and principal at Gunning Bedford Middle School. Dr. Blakey taught in the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District and was an administrator with the Caesar Rodney School District.
• Karen Yeatman Browne: Browne is vice president for marketing and communications with Christiana Care Health System, where she is responsible for internal and external communications, marketing and public relations, brand management, issues and crisis management and digital and creative services, and provides strategic communication counsel on business and marketing plans, thought leadership and employee engagement activities. Ms. Browne spent 16 years at DuPont in various communications positions.
• Jamie Clarke: As Executive Director of Value-Based Care, Ms. Clarke is responsible for leading Nemours through a successful transformation to a value-based care operation, emphasizing concern for patient health as part of an integrated continuum, rather than a series of episodic events. An innovative and strategic leader with more than 17 years’ experience in health care, she joined Nemours after six years with Anthem.
• Liz David: In her role as project management leader in the performance solutions division at W.L. Gore, Ms. David led the development and implementation of an enterprise-wide project management system aimed at ensuring the company’s products and processes are safe, reliable and durable and produced in ways that are clean, productive, and efficient across a range of demanding environments. In addition, Ms. David oversees the company’s nationwide participation with United Way.
• Gregory Lloyd Morris: As chief creative director of The Morris Project, Morris writes and produces independent theater and film, with a focus on community issues. He is an adjunct professor of Africana Studies at the University of Delaware and serves as a special assistant to Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki.
• Michele Schiavoni:Schiavoni is responsible for external relations and marketing at the Delaware Prosperity Partnership. She has extensive expertise in data-driven marketing strategy, integrated brand management, fundraising, advocacy communications, philanthropy and media relations in both the for-profit and nonprofit arenas. The former chair of The Delaware Alliance of Nonprofit Advancement (DANA), she is president of the Tilton Mansion Preservation Society and serves on the board of the Brandywine Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
• Kathleen A. Shelton: Dr. Shelton is the global leader of FMC’s discovery and development pipelines and leads an organization of nearly 800 scientists working in laboratories in Brazil, Denmark, France, India and the United States. Under her leadership, FMC’s Crop Protection Research and Development organization won the 2018 Agrow Award for the “Most Innovative Pipeline” in the agricultural industry. Previously she was director of DuPont’s Crop Protection Research and Development efforts.
Susan W. O’Donnell was recently elected the treasurer of the board for The Tilton Mansion Preservation Society Inc. — a nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore the Tilton Mansion, which is home to the University and Whist Club. O’Donnell is a vice president and senior fiduciary advisor for Wilmington Trust, which she joined in 2015. In that role, she is responsible for overseeing the administration of significant and complex personal trust relationships throughout the United States.
Ciro Poppiti IIIhas become the new president of the board at the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. Poppiti has been the Register of Wills since 2010 and has led an initiative to audit more than $150 million in unaccounted assets, netting some $2.3 million in “found” money for New Castle County. And has also published Delaware Estate Administration, a how-to manual that unifies statewide policy on what happens when someone dies. For his efforts, Ciro was awarded the 2015 Government Service Award by the Delaware Bar Association. The coalition has also added two new board members:
• Dr. Avani Virani is board-certified in internal medicine and hospice-palliative care medicine. She is currently working as medical director with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware. She is also a physician with
• Judi Pflaumer, CPFA, is the chief compliance officer/client services manager/wealth strategist/partner of Wealth Management Group LLC. Judi has been a board member of the CenDel Foundation
The new management team at Crust & Craft in Rehoboth Beach includes some familiar faces. SoDel Concepts, which purchased Crust & Craft earlier this year, has announced its new management lineup:
- Katie Sherman has been named general manager. She was with the company before the acquisition, joining Crust & Craft when it opened in 2015 in the Midway area on Del. 1.
- Executive Chef Nina Maddox is moving over to Crust & Craft from SoDel’s Lupo Italian Kitchen in Rehoboth Beach.
- Corporate Chef Chris Parks, another Lupo alum, oversees both restaurants.
- Dan Levin, a longtime SoDel Concepts employee, is the new director of operations.
- Wes Books is the new manager. Books helped open Bluecoast Seafood Grill + Raw Bar in Rehoboth and, like Sherman, was on Crust & Crafts’ opening team in 2015.
