Gov. John Carney, Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons, and Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester yesterday joined Sallie Mae Chairman and CEO Raymond Quinlan for the ribbon cutting of the financial company’s second Delaware office.
The new office is located at 86 Christiana Road in New Castle and will host 500 jobs. The company maintains its headquarters in Newark, Delaware.
Sallie Mae invested $8.4 million into renovation, construction, technology and talent at the new location. The office will host credit services, fraud prevention and collections, and is expected to generate $28.3 million in annual salary and benefits
“Delaware has a lot to offer businesses looking to grow and thrive — from a talented and dedicated workforce, to an ideal location and quality of life that’s second to none,” said Carney. “Sallie Mae’s continued investment in our state reaffirms the fact that Delaware remains a great place for any company — large or small — to put down roots and create jobs.”
The 57,000-square-foot office features 515 workstations, conference rooms, training rooms, a fitness center, and a full-service cafeteria and break room.
The company has already moved 325 employees into the new facility, and it plans to add 285 new jobs by 2020.
