DOVER — Senate lawmakers have unanimously approved a bill to add three organizations to a select group of nonprofit groups specifically exempted under state law from having to pay local property taxes.

The bill passed this month adds the Milford Housing Development Corp., Dover-based substance abuse treatment provider EJB Inc., and Martha & Mary’s Place, a central Delaware residential program for women, to the list of organizations excluded from paying property taxes under a law that dates more than 100 years.

The list has more than 80 entries and includes traditional nonprofits like the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity. It also includes civic associations, swim clubs, veterans organizations, incorporated college fraternities, and homes for the aged, the young and the disabled.

The legislation now goes to the state House.
